Hugh Miller’s ‘The Cruise of the Betsey’ and his ‘Rambles of a Geologist’ is ideal for exploring fossils and geology of Scotland. Thick and although it is written as a continuous novel, contains a full index. This is very handy, if you want to find his notes on a location, a specific fish, just ammonites or any information on geological rocks, minerals or features. Hugh Miller was one of the most important Scottish Geologists of the 19th Century

Other Jurassic Coastal sites in Scotland

There are a range of Jurassic Coastal sites in Scotland, most near Brora have been caused by the Helmsdale Fault. On the Isle of Skye, there are a number of coastal exposures including Bearreriag Bay, Glasnakille, Elgol, Faoilean. Other locations near to Eathie that are featured on UK Fossils are, Helmsdale, Golspie, Portgower, Crakaig, Kintradwell, Brora River, Balintore and Brora Foreshore.

Within the local area, Achanarras, Queensferry and Thurso are very good location where complete fish can be found. At Spital Quarry, fish fragments and complete finds can also be made. Fish can also be found at Cromarty, John o' Groats, North Berwick and Tarbat Ness.

Other locations with Kimmeridge Clay are, Chapmans Pool, Kimmeridge Bay, Lothbeg, Portgower, Helmsdale, Balintore and Eathie, in Scotland, or Wyke Regis, Bowleaze Cove and Ringstead in Dorset.
